Anne McCaffrey
Its very sad to hear Anne McCaffrey has passed. I had no idea Anne was born in 1926, which means she was already in her 50's when I discovered her in the late 1970's. Not a "surprising surprise" however; her writer's voice was certainly that of an ageless person, untouched by cynicism or snark and full of wonder, whimsy, and a love of the fantastic. I read the first three novels of her Dragonrider series, full of the sci-fi fantasy admixture I still love to this day, multiple times back then, usually accompanied by my cassette-playing, eleven-or-so-pound first-generation Walkman :)

Yes, she's certainly a huge loss to genre fiction.
ReplyDeleteThere is a copy on the Dragonriders of Pern within sight on my bookshelf as I type this. If I remember correctly it is the SF Book Club edition of her first three Dragonrider novels. I enjoyed them immensely and they were fine fuel for my imagination. I whish her a pleasant flight home free of thread.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 12 years old, Anne McCaffrey responded to my fan mail with a two-page letter. I wonder if I can find it now.
ReplyDeleteI was so sad to find out she passed away! When I was in junior high I became enamored with her books. Writers aren't what they used to be.
ReplyDeleteExcellent article shared. clan names, clan names, clan names, clan names, clan names, clan names.
ReplyDeleteIt was a sad day when she passed away. Pern and her fans will never forget her.
